CHNC challenge 228: vintage or shabby chic

What a lot of lovely girly cards that any girl/lady would love to receive. Thank you, once again, for supporting my challenge. I hope you will be able to do so this week. I have to admit that I sometimes find 'vintage/shabby chic' rather daunting, but when you think of Christmas, perhaps you can feature an old fashioned snow scene, or a family gathered around the fire, a vintage looking Father Christmas ... I'm sure you will have lots of ideas. And I think it might be a good opportunity to use some of those cards from last year that you couldn't bear to part with ... a bit of upcycling may be.

Please note that I publish the prize winners here and on our facebook page, but don't notify winners individually - it is up to you all to check to see if you have won and email me as requested. There are one or two unclaimed prizes, so it's worth having a look back to see if you were a winner.

Before I get on to today's challenge, I need to let you know the winners of challenge 227 - as usual there were four opportunities to win a prize. There is also a re-draw of one of last week's prizes for challenge 226 as the first winner, Pia, was on the DT for Bugaboo Stamps and thought it was fair for the prize to be given to somebody else:

Number 1: KandA, who shared this lovely card:

Congratulations, KandA. Please email me at hazelharris@ntlworld.com  so I can arrange for you to receive your $21 of digital stamps from Bugaboo Stamps.

The first winner:

Number 1: Tracey B, who shared this lovely card:

Congratulations, Tracey. Please email me at hazelharris@ntlworld.com with your full name and address so I can arrange for you to receive your £10 of goods from Craftybren's Embroidered Embellishments.

The second winner:

Number 3: Monica LaPaperaGialla, who shared this lovely card:

Congratulations, Monica.  Please email me at hazelharris@ntlworld.com so I can arrange for you to receive your three digis from Crafty Sentiments.

The third winner:

Number 21: Kindred Dilettante Soul (Tracy W), who shared this lovely card:

Congratulations, Tracy. Please email me at hazelharris@ntlworld.com so I can arrange to send your two sheets from Whoopsi Daisy.

The fourth winner:

Number 12: Meg, who shared this lovely card:

Congratulations, Meg. Please email me at hazelharris@ntlworld.com so I can send your £10 voucher to spend in Paper Creator's online store.

Now on to:
Challenge 228

For today's challenge I'd like you to make a Christmas creation in vintage or shabby chic style

Once again this week there are four opportunities to win a prize - as usual, winners will be chosen randomly.

The randomly chosen winner will receive a lucky dip pack of Kanban products.

The second sponsor is new to CHNC: StitchyBear's DIgi Outlet:

The third sponsor is Eureka Stamps:

The randomly chosen winner will receive 5 digital images of their choice from Eureka Stamps.

The fourth sponsor is new to CHNC: My Artistic Adventures, designs by Heather A Hudson:

The randomly chosen winner will receive a $10 certificate for digi work from My Artistic Adventures Etsy shop.

Please visit the websites of these generous sponsors and support them -
you will be spoiled for choice!

Please look down the sidebar on the right to see all of the sponsors that I have waiting in the wings to give out prizes during this year. I am so thankful for everyone that is so generously coming on board to support me. When buying your crafting goodies, please click on the links to see what's on offer in their online stores and support them as much as you can with your orders.

For my first card I've used a beautiful vintage sheet kindly given to me by Heather at  My Artistic Adventures - Christmas angels peace on earth. I scanned this into my Scan n Cut and used it to cut all the pieces - so much quicker than fussy cutting by hand. You can read more about the card here on My Crafty Outlook.

My second card was put together digitally using a digital paper 'baby it's cold outside' from Stitchy Bear's Digi Outlet (one of our other sponsors), Coosty Creations 'holly girl' paper from Stitchy Bear's Digi Outlet, layering these and fading the edges of the holly girl paper and adding the Crafty Girl creations 'Christmas ornaments 2', once again given by Stitchy Bear Digi Outlet, fading the edges to allow the underneath edges to show through. You can see this here on My Crafty Outlook:

Update: Friday 15 May - there's still time to get your entries in - this challenge is open till 22:00 UK time this evening. Today there is more design inspiration on CCAYR May challenge where the theme is 'vintage', so it would be good if you could also share your vintage Christmas designs there. I have shown two cards for mid-month, so I thought I'd show them here too:

You can read about this one here on My Crafty Outlook:

And this one here on My Crafty Outlook:

Now it's over to you. As usual, you can use any materials, any techniques - and this week I'd like you to make your Christmas creation have a vintage feel or shabby chic. Perhaps this will be an opportunity to upcycle cards that you had last Christmas and have been hanging on to, hoping to be able to use them - perhaps an old fashioned winter scene, vintage Father Christmas, an indoor scene with stockings hanging ... I'm sure you will have other ideas and, as usual, this is a fairly open theme, so please interpret how you wish.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with for this challenge - please add a link to your blog post (not your blog, but the actual post where your card can be found) by 22:00 UK time Friday 15 May 2015. Please include a link to this blogpost within the post for your creation.

You can enter as many times as you wish  and also link to any other challenges that allow you to do so, but new work only, please.

A new challenge will be set on Saturday 16 May 2015 when there will be four chances to win a prize, thanks to generous sponsors.

Please add your link to inlinkz. If by any chance it disappears, please leave a comment with the link to your blog post and I will make sure it is added.

If you haven't done so already, please become a follower and grab my bright pink button to post on your sidebar and help continue to spread the word about this challenge blog - thank you. Also it would be great if you would consider becoming a follower - lovely to welcome recent new followers and 'likers' on facebook.

Please also consider going to CHNC Facebook page and clicking 'like' if you haven't done so already and encourage your friends to do the same. We now have over 350 'likes'  - it was lovely to welcome some new 'likers' this week, but there's plenty of room for more! I always show at least one of my cards for the next challenge in advance and it's a good place to catch up with any news, winners etc.

Don't forget

Don't forget that 'anything goes' monthly challenges are on my Craftyhazelnut's Christmas Challenge Extra blog - you can share any Christmas card you make throughout the whole month, including those that you link here - there is no restriction on the number of entries you can make throughout the month - the link for CHNC challenge extra for May is here.

Last year I started up a new challenge called Craftyhazelnut's Patterned Paper Challenge - anything goes as long as you cover your card with patterned paper - a randomly chosen prize winner every month. Please click on the link to find out more. If you have used patterned paper to cover your card blank for your Christmas card, why not enter it there too. And please be aware that the  Patterned Paper Challenge is not restricted to Christmas - it is for any occasions.

Thank you for your support
I look forward to seeing your entries

  1. When I see the words Vintage or Shabby Chic I always think of my Tim Holtz items. I used a TH Bell die for my Tag. Sanded the cardstock before die cutting to give it an even more vintage look.
